Equipment NeededAn egg The ExperimentPlace the egg in the pitcher of water. The egg will sink to the bottom. Remove the egg. Pour some salt in the water - about an egg-cupful of salt for every cup of water - and stir it. Replace the egg. The egg will now float. How It WorksBefore you added salt, the egg was denser than the water, so the egg sank. When you added salt, you increased the density of the water. The water became denser than the egg, allowing the egg to float.
