Expansion of Different Liquids

This experiment will show how different liquids expand at different rates when they are heated.

3 small bottles of similar size, each with a tightly fitting cork
Tool to drill holes in cork
3 glass tubes
1 bowl
Water
Turpentine
Ethanol

Drill holes in each of the corks so that a glass tube can run through the cork and into the bottle.

Fill one bottle with water, one with turpentine and one with ethanol. - Make sure they are away from any naked flames.

Label the bottles so you know which bottle contains which liquid.

Pour hot (not boiling) water into the bowl.

Place the three jars in the water.
